Alexander

Thomas Edward Alexander (June 2, 1818 - January 12, 1901) was Edna's Grandfather on the Alexander/Radway side of the family. He was apparently born in Bristol, England (although back of photo says Malmesbury) He had nine children, 8 of who survived from 47 years up to 89 years. He is buried in Roselawn Cemetery in Solon, Ohio.

According to family lore, Thomas Edward Alexander was a brother of John H Alexander who ran afoul of John Rockefeller. This was in the early days of American oil business when it was centered on Northwestern Pennsylvania and Ohio with Cleveland being the headquarters for both Rockefeller & Amasa Stone. John H Alexander had apparently been key to development of early oil refineries in Franklin Pennsylvania & Fort Wayne, Indiana from 1859 to 1872 but was forced out of business in 1872 by Rockefeller who was taking advantage of a recession.

MSB contended that the Alexanders would have become extremely wealthy, but DEB jr wasn't able to substantiate that Thomas Edward was part of the Anderson Scofield partnership that had dealt with Rockefeller. Hence we currently lack confirmation that Thomas Edward was involved in the oil business and that the family missed out on enormous wealth.

Marriages and children are as follows:

Three children with Harriet W Alexander (1818 - 1847): Emma, Oliver & Ruth. Apparently, none of these figured in Edna's life.

Six children with Hanna Radway Alexander (1822 - 1896); several of whom figured in Edna's life:

    Albert 1851 - 1919

    Sarah Jane 1853 - 1942

    Rhoda Sybella 1855 - 1943 (MSB's Grandmother)

    Mary E 1857 - 1904

    Ella 1858 - 1928

    Hattie 1867 - 1913
